"Peace in White / Nothing but Everything"

Japan-Ukraine Mini Textile Art Exhibition

2009-2010

Tokyo-Kherson

Alongside with the 4th International Minitextile Art Exhibition there was a separate joint Japanese-Ukrainian exhibition of mini textile "Peace in White/Nothing but Everything". 12 Ukrainian and 12 Japanese artists were invited to submit their works end to express their own understanding of white colour. The idea of Sugane Hara (Japan), curators Sugane Hara and Andrew Schneider (Ukraine). As Sugane Hara has written, "there are so many expressions relating to white colour: shiny white, mat, cool, warm, clear and milky white etc. Adding the texture factor, the inherent possibility of white expands even more. White is colour to be able to purify the absurdness. Now, in our life, particularly where there there are full of mixed colours without harmonisation and result in chaotic grey, we would like to place our hope in silent and deep world of white." In both Japanese and Ukrainian cultures white is a colour of positive emotions, lightness and purity. This exhibition from Kherson will travel to Tokyo and Busan (Korea).
